A small menu-bar app that serves open AI models with Ollama when your Mac isn't in use, inside a sandbox, and gets you paid in USDC for every token.

Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu → About This Mac: Chip: Apple M… means Apple Silicon; Processor: Intel means Intel. Windows and Linux are coming next.

Install in two minutes

  1. Open the .dmg and drag sparehash into Applications.
  2. Open sparehash. The first time, macOS says it can't check the app: open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only do this once. (We're not notarized by Apple yet.)
  3. Link this computer: click the button, then approve it in your browser with your wallet.
  4. Choose your models. The app shows which ones your Mac can run smoothly, how much memory and disk each needs, and downloads only the ones you pick. Everything else is built in.

What it does on your Mac

  • Comes with its own built-in model engine (Ollama), run in a macOS sandbox: it can only write to its own folder, can't read your Documents, Desktop, Downloads, keys or browser data, and only listens on this Mac
  • Serves only when you choose: when idle, at night, or always; pauses on battery
  • Never stores prompts: requests pass through memory only, and secrets are masked before they arrive
  • Checks every model file against the official version and fixes anything that was changed
  • Shows what you earn against what the electricity costs

Requirements

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later, Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) recommended
  • 16 GB of memory or more earns the most; 8 GB runs the small models
  • Free disk for the models you choose: from under 1 GB to 65 GB each (the app shows sizes and checks before downloading)
  • A crypto wallet (MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Rabby…) to link the app and receive USDC on Base
